Closed World

What if the world consisted of only 100 people? In the past year many of us were limited in our geographies and social circles. Knowing there are only 99 other humans in a closed world might not feel constricting if it were designed well. This drawing represents a microcosm of Earth. Circular forms, extensive landscapes, and diversity of life extend the pyschological boundaries and encourage exploration.

5 columns set an interior condition and central origin. 25 curved walls rotate out around the origin changing direction when they would otherwise create a full enclosure or escape the bounds. The resulting form suggests layers of enclosure without ever creating fully interior or exterior spaces. The 3 colours were used to reinforce space defining surfaces and express their different conditions.

Housebarn

Modernity has changed human relationship to livestock in this housebarn turned vacation home. Cows were once kept inside by semi-nomadic farmers to provide heat and sustenance. Now cleanliness, passive heating and global food chains relegate them to a passing reminder of a life more directly related to these animals.
