Synthetic Worlds

An Ecological Typology for an Age of Crisis

Final Graduate Project - UBC SALA M.Arch

This project is a response to the existential threat of climate change that is expressing itself through periods of deadly heat and unhealthy air in Vancouver. The spaces Vancouverites inhabit during these states of emergency are often inhumane and inadequate for preserving life over extended periods. The most vulnerable cannot thrive either indoors or outdoors. Therefore, this project proposes a new typology of ecological community amenity space that brings nature indoors and provides environmental refuge.
